Ofgem’s Supply Market Indicator, an estimate of energy firm profit margins for the next 12 months, has anticipated an increase on average to £114, up £9 from November 2014 and £37 year on year.

Citizens Advice has said that the reduction in gas bills announced by Scottish Power has fallen short for consumers, just as E.On and British Gas’s reductions did. Scottish Power announced a 4.8 per cent cut to its gas prices today.

Citizens Advice has warned that whilst credit card debt is the second most common debt problem it helps people with, more are now getting help with priority debts like council tax as they struggle with everyday costs. Bank of England figures today revealed that demand for credit cards and other unsecured debt products like personal loans is at its highest level since 2007.

The cap on the cost of credit for payday loans comes into effect today. Citizens Advice has said that the Financial Conduct Authority must monitor the cap and make sure it is keeping consumers protected.
