More than medicine: Supporting financial wellbeing in cancer care
Citizens Advice and Macmillan Cancer Support have been working in partnership for well over a decade to provide free welfare benefits advice to people living with cancer in England. This service helps people to maximise their income, access grants, and get support to afford costs related to their cancer care.
Our latest report 'More than medicine: Supporting financial wellbeing in cancer care' details the impact of this service. In 2022, over 34,000 people with cancer were helped to obtain over £112 million in financial support. The additional income helped people to overcome barriers to health equity. The report includes stories from the people we helped, showing how the financial and practical support they received helped improve their wellbeing, reduce anxiety, and aid cancer recovery. By alleviating financial strain, the service enables people to focus on their health.
The collaboration demonstrates the commitment of both organisations to support people living with cancer. This service makes a real difference for individuals and families facing major life challenges.
