About the role

Citizens Advice New Forest has an exciting opportunity for a debt adviser to join its Hampshire-wide Debt Advice project. The role will support vulnerable clients living across East Hampshire who are struggling to manage their debt and will be part of a team of four advisers covering the whole county. This project, which is funded through the National Lottery, has been created to meet the increasing demand for debt advice as people deal with the cost of living crisis, with the objectives of improving both their debt situation and their mental wellbeing.

We are looking for candidates who are:

• An individual passionate about helping vulnerable people living on low incomes;

• A good listener, able to understand an individual’s needs and come up with solutions that will help them get to grips with their finances;

• A great communicator, full of empathy and able to work with people struggling with their mental health;

• An adaptable person, able to change their communication style to get the best from their clients;

• A self-starter with a can-do attitude.

What in it for you:

• Working in a supportive environment, you will receive all the training you require and continued support throughout the project;

• Through multiple sessions with your clients, achieve the realisation of tangible outcomes which might include assistance with debt written-off, maximisation of income and an increase in their mental wellbeing;

• A great sense of satisfaction, helping both individuals and your wider community.

As a successful candidate will be expected to work a hybrid model of delivery – in an office environment, during outreach sessions and home-based working. You will be expected to provide advice through multiple channels including face to face, telephone and email.

The role is full time, 37.5 hours per week. The role is offered on a permanent basis but funding for the project is currently agreed for a fixed term until the end of February 2026. Whilst we will strive to secure further funding beyond this date, continued employment beyond this date is not guaranteed.

This role would suit an individual with an advice background, however we would also be keen to hear from candidates who have transferable skills and that would be willing to undergo training in debt advice.

So if you think that this role sounds like something you would be passionate about we would love to hear from you.
